ECHO’s first local workshop in Italy

3rd February 2026

In December, ECHO held its first round of local workshops. These workshops took place in Italy, Slovenia and Spain, where ECHO will test and validate the project’s solutions for hazards including floods, landslides, droughts, earthquakes, wildfires, infrastructure failures and cyber-attacks. The purpose of the workshops is to examine specific/regional contexts and challenges, discuss current practices, and identify opportunities through concrete use cases. The results of these workshops will serve as the baseline for ECHO’s resilience strategy.

On 11th December 2025, ECHO’s first local workshop was held in Italy. The workshop was organised and hosted by ECHO’s project partner Insiel, who leads ECHO’s Italian pilot. The Italian pilot focuses on the resilience of road, water and digital networks, with particular emphasis on resilience against earthquakes, heavy storms, fires and hydrogeological instability.

The workshop brought together regional stakeholders, including critical infrastructure operators, local authorities, first responders and emergency services, to discuss how to strengthen resilience across the lifecycle of essential services during crises.

In the workshop, these stakeholders analysed the current practices in critical infrastructure (called AS-IS analysis) and its intended future state (called TO-BE analysis), focusing on the following topics:

  • Collaboration and sharing of data and resources
  • Decision-making processes and strategic governance
  • Training and preparedness

The workshop uncovered the needs of the Italian territory and will enable the ECHO project to create concrete inputs for a safer and more resilient ecosystem.
