Brief biography of partner
The Municipality of Kranjska Gora is settled between Karavanks mountain range and Julian Alps in North – west of Slovenia. Both ECHO project partners, Municipality of Kranjska Gora and Jesenice are neighbouring municipalities in Upper Sava Valley in Slovenia. Kranjska Gora is also bordering with Italy in the west and Austria in the north. There are ten settlements on more distinct and fertile hills on the Karavanks side with an administrative centre in the town of Kranjska Gora. Due to high mountains and alpine valleys, the Municipality has mountain climate with fresh summers and cold winters. It is one of the most touristic places in Slovenia. It offers many ethnographic jewels as well as adrenaline sports and outdoor activities, all accompanied with the beauty of nature. Yearly, there are two important events, the FIS Ski Flying World Championships and FIS Alpine ski World Cup.
Role in the project
The location of the Municipality of Kranjska is widespread. Due to the never-ending touristic season, there are also many mountain and other outdoor activities-related accidents, sometimes with difficult rescues. There is poor mobile signal coverage in remote areas of the Municipality. Sometimes, due to weather conditions, there is a problem with providing electricity during natural disasters. As end users, the Municipality of Kranjska is trying to improve the accessibility of mobile systems and electricity in all areas of the Municipality. For ECHO, they will provide relevant data needed for tests and simulations, testing the environment as per the defined use cases in testing and validation.
