Elektro Gorenjska

Kranj, Slovenia

Brief biography of partner

Elektro Gorenjska (EG) is a Slovenian distribution system operator (DSO) that provides electricity to approximately 10% of the Slovenian territory. EG operates 2.091 km2 in the North-Eastern part of Slovenia and supplies approximately 90.000 customers. Elektro Gorenjska’s distribution network consists of 13 HV/MV primary substations, 8 MV substations, nearly 1500 MV/LV secondary substations and approximately 5.000 km of different 110 kV to 0.4 kV networks, with a total yearly distribution of approximately 1.000.000 MWh of electricity. In addition to continuously ranking as Slovenia’s top energy supplier with regards to power quality, evident from the highest Slovenian quality system indexes, EG is strongly committed to R/D activities, being involved as a partner in numerous national and international projects.

Through active participation in international research and development projects, EG persistently builds the reputation of an innovative and reliable partner. Participation in projects also enables them to successfully integrate state-of-the-art technology systems that provide appropriate demonstration environments. This is important for the implementation and evaluation of new concepts in managing and operating distribution networks.

Role in the project

Elektro Gorenjska provides operational data and systems – SCADA, GIS, and outage/fault histories – and grants access to a test environment for integrations and simulations. Elektro Gorenjska co-designs Slovenian use-case scenarios (severe storms, floods, landslides), leads pilot activities, and validates solutions on its distribution network. The company integrates project interfaces and services into dispatch and field operations while supplying technical requirements and continuous feedback for improvements. It delivers “train-the-trainer” programs and exercises for EG teams and local partners (municipalities and civil protection), including cyber-resilience practices. Finally, Elektro Gorenjska contributes to business-continuity planning and cross-border procedures, and shares data and lessons learned to enable transferability of the solutions at broader scale.
