Brief biography of partner

The University of Udine (UNIUD), founded in 1978 in response to the 1976 Friuli earthquake, has a long-standing focus on disaster-oriented research. Through its UNESCO Chair on Intersectoral Safety for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience at the SPRINT Laboratory of the Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture, UNIUD has pioneered an innovative intersectoral safety approach.

This has led to the development of new assessment and decision support methodologies which has been recognized internationally. The UNESCO Chair promotes intersectoral safety as a vital tool for creating comprehensive, multi-disciplinary disaster risk reduction strategies, in line with UN and Global Frameworks and Agendas, such as the Sendai Framework and Sustainable Development Goals.

Role in the project

The University of Udine (UNIUD), through its UNESCO Chair, will guide alignment of the ECHO project with major global policy frameworks in local applications. UNIUD will act as a link to UN frameworks and Agendas, especially those from UNESCO and UNDRR, bridging the gap between ECHO’s technical innovations and the international policy landscape, thereby enhancing the project’s global relevance and impact.
