October 2026 marks one year since the ECHO project began with our kick-off meeting in Athens, Greece. Over the past 12 months, ECHO has brought together stakeholders, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to strengthen resilience against the increasingly complex and multi-hazard threats that are facing Europe’s critical infrastructure.
A major focus during ECHO’s first year has been listening to those working on the ground. In December 2025, ECHO held its first local workshops in Italy, Slovenia, and Spain, bringing together critical infrastructure operators, authorities, emergency services, and other stakeholders to examine current practices, identify gaps and needs, and explore opportunities for improvement. These workshops are a crucial component of ECHO that help our consortium to shape the project’s resilience strategy and future solutions.

The project has also made significant progress in developing its suite of technological solutions. At a technical meeting of ECHO project partners in Athens in May, partners discussed the Knowledge Hub, Novel Threat Monitoring and Forecasting Service, Resilience Plan Evaluation, Resilience Simulation and Training tool, and Resource Orchestrator. Together, these technologies are designed to support resilience planning and management across the resilience lifecycle from anticipation and prevention through to response and recovery.
Alongside this technical work, ECHO has been building connections with the wider resilience and critical infrastructure community. Over the year, the project has been presented at events including the Envirorisk Forum, Days of Corporate Security, the Projects to Policy Seminar, and Disaster Resilience Days, as well as at a consultation with the National Council of Slovenia and the COcyber Final Event in Brussels.
As ECHO enters its second year, the project will build on these foundations, continuing to develop and validate its solutions and work towards a more resilient future for Europe’s critical infrastructure.
Happy first birthday, ECHO!
